چکیده

Massive young stellar objects (YSOs) are powerful infrared H I line emitters. It has been suggested that these lines form in a outflow from a disk surrounding the YSO. Here, new two-dimensional Monte Carlo radiative transfer calculations are described which test this hypothesis. Infrared spectra are synthesised for a YSO disk wind model based on earlier hydrodynamical calculations. The model spectra are in qualitative agreement with the observed spectra from massive YSOs, and therefore provide support for a disk wind explanation for the H I lines. However, there are some significant differences: the models tend to overpredict the Brα/Brγ ratio of equivalent-widths and produce line profiles which are slightly too broad and, in contrast to typical observations, are double-peaked. The interpretation of these differences within the context of the disk wind picture and suggestions for their resolution via modifications to the assumed disk and outflow structure are discussed.

NLTE Monte Carlo Radiative Transfer: I. The Thermal Properties of Keplerian Disks around Classical Be Stars

We present a 3-D NLTE Monte Carlo radiative transfer code that we use to study the temperature and ionization structure of Keplerian disks around Classical Be stars. The method we employ is largely similiar to the Monte Carlo transition probability method developed by Lucy. Here we present a simplification of his method that avoids the use of the macro atom concept. Our investigations of the te...

Energy study at different solvents for potassium Channel Protein by Monte Carlo, Molecular and Langevin Dynamics Simulations

Potassium Channels allow potassium flux and are essential for the generation of electric current acrossexcitable membranes. Potassium Channels are also the targets of various intracellular controlmechanisms; such that the suboptimal regulation of channel function might be related to pathologicalconditions. Realistic studies of ion current in biologic channels present a major challenge for compu...

On the Semimajor Axis Distribution of Extrasolar Gas Giant Planets: Why Hot Jupiters Are Rare Around High-Mass Stars

Based on a suite of Monte Carlo simulations, I show that a stellar-massdependent lifetime of the gas disks from which planets form can explain the lack of hot Jupiters/close-in giant planets around high-mass stars and other key features of the observed semimajor axis distribution of radial velocity-detected giant planets. Using reasonable parameters for the Type II migration rate, regions of pl...

Constraints in the circumstellar density distribution of massive Young Stellar Objects

We use a Monte Carlo code to generate synthetic near-IR reflection nebulae that resemble those (normally associated with a bipolar outflow cavity) seen towards massive young stellar objects (YSOs). The 2D axi-symmetric calculations use an analytic expression for a flattened infalling rotating envelope with a bipolar cavity representing an outflow. We are interested in which aspects of the circu...

Radiation Pressure in Massive Star Formation

Stars with masses of ∼ 20 M⊙ have short Kelvin times that enable them to reach the main sequence while still accreting from their natal clouds. The resulting nuclear burning produces a huge luminosity and a correspondingly large radiation pressure force on dust grains in the accreting gas. This effect may limit the upper mass of stars that can form by accretion. Indeed, simulations and analytic...
